"Finest" double wide-chain drive
For those who need a larger production rate, a "Finest double wide" (also known as the Model 405x2) is available. Part of the flagship "Finest" model series, this top of the line model is unique and comes complete with all available features including the Brush Attachment.
This is also a chain drive carder and has a pulley attached to the crank so that the carder can be motorized by the end user.
The wood frame is ash with a warm honey-oak finish. The large drum on the double wide models is 15" wide, with the same 7" diameter as the standard carder and produces a batt approximately 14" wide x 22" long. Overall dimensions are 18-1/2" wide x 24" long. The frame is 6" high. An important feature: Since the swing of the handle clears the table surface, the carder can be placed anywhere on the work surface.
This unit is equipped with the #05 (128 psi) card cloth and "Slicker-Licker" (SL). The 6" high frame permits a larger sprocket on the small drum. This makes a 5:1 ratio between the drums, which allows more carding action per revolution. This 5:1 ratio allows for minimal turning of the large drum to produce an excellent, well blended batt; 2-3 passes are sufficient.
Special tools included with each "Finest double wide" are:

The large drum on the double wide models is 15" wide, with the same 7" diameter as the standard carder and produces a batt approximately 14" wide x 22" long. Overall dimensions are 19-1/2" wide x 24" long. The frame is 4" high. This carder is meant to be used at the edge of the work surface, allowing turning of the crank.
For comparison, look at the "Finest double wide" chain drive. The 6" high frame of the "Finest double wide" allows the carder can be placed anywhere on the work surface.
Standard cloth put on the 500 series drum carder:
For those with specialized needs, there are two coarser styles of card cloth available for the carding drum (the large drum). All cloth uses 3/8" long plated steel wire in a tough rubberized cloth backing:
The famous "Slicker-Licker" card cloth, unique to ALL Strauch carders, is used on the lickerin (small, infeed drum) drum. This special card cloth has smooth, straight teeth which give a more gentle carding action to the fiber with virtually no fiber build up on the small drum.
Special tools included with each carder are:
The fabulous Brush Attachment is available separately and can be installed at time of purchase or be added later. It can be easily installed by the customer. Instructions included.
