Swift / Skeinwinder

There are two styles of Swift/Skeinwinder available:
a floor model and a table model.

These models are interchangeable, collapsible and easily portable.

  • These handcrafted Umbrella Swifts are designed to function as both a Swift and a Skeinwinder.
  • Skein circumference is adjustable from 1-2 yards.
  • The adjusting ring, shown below on the left, locks the setting in place.
  • The winding handle, shown below on the right, makes it easy to wind onto the Skeinwinder

  

  • Available in these solid hardwoods: Oak, Cherry, Birch and Walnut.
  • All Swifts are treated with Watco penetrating oil finish and need
    only to be occasionally cleaned with high quality liquid lemon
    oil furniture polish.
 

Rotation Counter for the Strauch Swift / Skeinwinder

a truly unique yardage counter custom built for the Strauch Swift/Skeinwinder.

The Table Swift / Skeinwinder

Introduced in April 2007, this newest addition to the Strauch Fiber Equipment line,
uses the same umbrella section as is used on the floor model. Simply screw it into
the table base, attach the table clamp and you're ready to work. Measures 27" tall
from table surface to top of knob. A suggestion: to more easily use as a skeinwinder,
mount it on a shorter table so the top crank is more accessible.

Collapsible. Unscrew top knob and
fold arms together for easy storage.

Convertible. Screws into floor base
(sold separately) to make a floor Swift.

Portable: Unscrew top knob, fold arms
and unscrew from base for easy transport.

Top knob and Teflon ring store
on the table base so they won't
get lost during transport or storage.

 

The Floor Swift / Skeinwinder

This beautiful and functional piece of furniture has been delighting
fiber artists since 1990. Measures 42" tall from floor to top of knob.

Floor Swift / skeinwinders built after March 2007 incorporate all the
new improvements. Units made prior to 3/07 can be upgraded.

The floor model uses the same umbrella section as on the table model.
Simply screw it into the floor base.

The three legs are easily removed by loosening each of the three locking thumbscrews.
